Identifying Features

Fairy Duster (Calliandra eriophylla) is a medium sized shrub with green, twice compound leaves that are one inch long. Its flowers vary in color from pale pink, to a deeper pink to pale rose. While flowering can occur year-round, it tends to occur in response to good rains.

Habitat

This plant prefers sandy washes, dry slopes, gravelly hillsides and mesas below 5000 feet in elevation.

Range

Fairy duster can be found in northern Baja California, southeastern California and southern Arizona.

Size

This is medium sized shrub that grows between 2- 5 feet high and up to 5 feet wide.
